: Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter FRS OBE is Britain's foremost authority on communicating risk and uncertainty — and one of the rare academics who can hold a room of sceptics. Emeritus Professor of Statistics at Cambridge and former Winton Professor for the Public Understanding of Risk, he has spent decades making probability and uncertainty legible to decision-makers, regulators, courts and the public alike. His bestselling books The Art of Statistics and The Art of Uncertainty (2024) have redefined how professionals across finance, medicine and policy think about what they don't know. He was knighted in 2014 for services to medical statistics, was President of the Royal Statistical Society (2017–18), and serves as a Non-Executive Director of the UK Statistics Authority.
