Tom Franck
Bank van Breda
- Tom Franck is Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and Member of the Executive Committee at Bank Van Breda & C°, where he leads the bank’s integrated risk strategy across financial and non-financial domains. He brings over 15 years of experience spanning banking, supervision, policy-making, and academia, enabling him to navigate complex risk landscapes with a uniquely holistic perspective. Before joining the bank’s executive team, Tom held senior roles at the National Bank of Belgium, where he contributed to both micro- and macro-prudential supervision, and played a key role in the ECB’s Comprehensive Assessment (Asset Quality Review). He later served as Deputy Director at the Cabinet of the Belgian Minister of Finance, actively shaping financial sector policy and regulatory frameworks at the national and European level. Alongside his executive responsibilities, Tom has maintained a strong academic engagement as Professor at KU Leuven and Lecturer in International Finance, contributing to the development of future finance leaders. He has also served as a Board Member in the private banking sector, further strengthening his governance and strategic oversight expertise. As CRO, Tom is particularly focused on strengthening operational resilience, embedding risk culture, and preparing institutions for an increasingly digital and interconnected environment. He has a strong interest in cyber risk and the resilience of critical financial services, positioning risk management as a central driver of sustainable value creation rather than a control function alone. Tom combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, and is passionate about building high-performing risk functions that are forward-looking, integrated, and business-oriented.
